About the Symposium

Center of Excellence in Traceability jointly with the TEFSE (Traceability in Emerging Forms of Software Engineering) workshop series is organizing the International Symposium on Grand Challenges in Traceability.

Following the publication of the Grand Challenges in Traceability in September 2006, we invite researchers and practitioners interested in tracing and traceability to submit short research/position papers addressing any of the challenges outlined in the Grand Challenges document.

The Symposium, counted as the special TEFSE event for 2007, will be held as a two-day retreat on March 22-23, 2007 in Lexington, Kentucky.

Tutorials

Two tutorials will be offered on the University of Kentucky campus on Wednsday, March 21, the day before the symposium.

Requirements Elicitation: This half-day tutorial will address topics relevant to software and systems engineers of varying levels of experience, such as: information discovery, requirements gathering, and requirements prioritization. The tutorial will be taught by two software engineering professors with industrial experience.
Writing Good Requirements: This half-day tutorial is appropriate for software and systems engineers of varying levels of experience. Topics covered will include, but not be limited to: characteristics of a good requirement, standards for requirements, common mistakes in writing requirements. The tutorial will be taught by two professors in software engineering who also have industry experience. In addition, a guest from NASA will present a subset of the tutorial.

The organizers reserve the right to cancel either of the tutorials if not enough people register.

Symposium Venue

The Symposium will be held at the Natural Bridge State Resort Park in Slade, KY.

Travel, Lodging, Dining

Travel
- Lexington, KY is the home to the Bluegrass Airport (LEX). Additionally, two other major airports, Cincinnati (CVG) and Louisville (SDF) are located within an easy drive (~65-75miles) from Lexington.
- The Symposium organizers are planning on providing transportation between the Lexington Bluegrass Airport (LEX) and the Symposium venue.

Lodging
- The Symposium will be organized retreat-style. The accomodations include rooms at the Hemlock Lodge and limited cottage rooms onsite. Accomodation requests will be processed together with symposium registration and accomodation costs will be included in the registration price.

Dining
- The Symposium registration fee includes all meals during the Symposium. This includes breakfasts and lunches on March 22 and 23 (all served at the Hemlock Lodge dining room) and three evening events:
  - Wednsday, March 21 - Welcome Reception, Hemlock Lodge dining room.
  - Thursday, March 22 - Banquet, Kathy's Country Kitchen, Clay City, KY
  - Friday, March 23 -Dinner, Hemlock Logde dining room.
The banquet will be held at Kathy's Country Kitchen in Clay City, KY, which recently has been featured in Gary West's Eating Your Way Across Kentucky, 101 Must Places to Eat (Acclaim Press). Transportation to and from the event will be provided.
