Our goal is to bring together traceability researchers and experts in the field. We hope to encourage research collaborations, assemble a body of knowledge for traceability and develop new technology to meet tracing needs.

About COEST

Welcome to the Center of Excellence for Software Traceability (COEST)

Our Vision:

The vision of the COE for Traceability is to provide leadership
for traceability research, education, and practice; promoting the
pursuit of excellence from research idea to practice, based on a
foundation of innovative, ethical, collaborative work; and embracing
this vision, to be the best traceability center in the world.

Our Mission:

In order to achieve our vision, we will advance traceability research, education,
and practice by identifying the grand challenges for traceability, by fostering
international research collaborations focused on the grand challenges, by developing
a repository of benchmarks for traceability research, by developing and delivering
tutorials in the areas of requirements engineering and traceability, by developing a
Body of Knowledge for traceability, by cultivating partnerships with industry and
academia, and by providing the infrastructure needed to support the above.

GCT'07 - TEFSE'07 Registration is now open!

Registration for GCT'07/TEFSE'07 is now open.

Please note, that symposium registration covers symposium participation fee, three days of lodging at the symposium site, as well Wednsday, March 21 reception, Thursday, March 22 banquet (at Kathy's Country Kitchen, Clay City, KY) and all other meals for March 22 and March 23.

Students engaged in traceability research (and especially students who have submitted papers to the symposium) are encouraged to apply for a stipend. Stipends are merit-based and will cover all or part of the student registration fee. Students recieving stipends are expected to help symposium organizers by serving as volunteers at the symposium site.

TEFSE/GCT'07 Deadline Extension

Paper submission deadline for International Symposium on Grand Challenges in Traceability has been extended from January 12 to January 16.

Authors are still asked to submit their abstracts by January 12.

Addressing the Grand Challenges for Traceability

Requirements traceability provides critical support for software engineers as they develop and maintain software systems. Traceability can, for example, help an analyst to ensure that a high level requirement has been refined into lower level design components, built into the executable system, and tested effectively. Traceability also helps analysts to effectively understand, manage, and control changes as they are introduced. Numerous standards such as IEEE Standard 830- 1998, CMMI, and ISO 9001 mandate traceability practices as an essential element of the software development life cycle. Unfortunately, practicing traceability is much harder than it would appear and many organizations fail to implement effective traceability practices which they perceive to be costly and unattainable.
